There is much talk at our school about what it means to be a bystander, someone who does not get involved in a situation that doesn't affect him/her, versus an upstander, someone who speaks up or acts when he or she witnesses behavior that is inappropriate, hurtful, dangerous or morally wrong.
Describe a time you stood up to someone or were an upstander, and/or things you WOULD stand up for. What did it involve? Why did you choose to act or speak up rather than ignore the situation? How did it turn out? How did you feel?
